Continuing to meet and improve performance against these eligibility criteria is critical to Vanuatu remaining eligible for MCC Compact funding.
This Eligibility Performance Improvement Plan focuses on the areas of current weakness which need to be urgently improved”.
During 2009, Vanuatu focused on performing above the median in immunization rates, girls' primary education completion, business start-up, regulatory quality and trade policy.
“These areas, plus others, will continue as priorities into 2010.”
The Acting US Ambassador, Paul Berg, stated that
“The MCC Program is a very useful tool that monitors our performance and most importantly, because of its comparison ability, with other countries in the same category.”
The Vanuatu Compact has 17 months to go to Compact end. The road projects on Efate and Santo are on target, within budget, and to the contract specifications. The first 60km of sealed road will be handed back to the government at the end of January, a month from now. “This has been a huge undertaking for Vanuatu but now it is all coming together well. “This is a wonderful way to start the 30 Years of Vanuatu's Independence” said DPM Kilman.
